The Pink Key™
The Pink Key™ is a version of our VitalKey dedicated to breast cancer patients, survivors and their families, and is supported by a strong partnership with the nationally recognized Massey Cancer Center at Virginia Commonwealth University.
In the future, our government hopes that all of us will have convenient access to our medical records. Virtually every medical expert thinks such access is essential to empower us to make informed decisions about our health care and to reduce life-threatening medical errors.
Pink Key and VitalKey bring you this future today. Health care decisions aren't getting any easier, and responsibility for those decisions increasingly is being shifted to the individual.
Making the right decisions about breast cancer is even more challenging. Many survivors have four or five specialists - oncologists, cancer surgeons, reconstructive and cosmetic surgeons, therapists... The quality of your care depends on these doctors making the right decisions based on your current medical information.
Having a Pink Key ensures your doctors are all well informed - especially your general physician, who may be a brilliant caregiver but is probably not a cancer expert. Yet, his or her decisions about your general health can be significantly affected by aspects of your cancer diagnosis and treatment.
If you've ever had to cart around your medical records - reports, X-rays, scans, CDs and the like - as you make the rounds of your doctors, you know there should be a better way. The Pink Key is that better way.
What makes the Pink Key pink?
- Pink Key medical specialists, who are nurses with supplementary training in breast cancer issues. These specialists gather, organize, and enter your medical records for you onto your Pink Key. And they call you for periodic updates to your Key. Managing your medical information becomes almost effortless.
- Tools to assist you in preparing for and tracking medical appointments and procedures.
- Valuable content written and maintained by the inventor of the Pink Key, Massey oncologist Dr. James Khatcheressian, about all facets of breast cancer, including diagnosis, treatment and survivorship issues.
In an emergency...
The Pink Key, like any VitalKey can be a lifesaver if you ever have a medical emergency and are treated by medical professionals who are not familiar with your medical background (conditions, medications, allergies, etc.).
If you decide to become a Pink Key holder, it will contain all such records and may be accessed from virtually any computer. Internet access is not required to open a Pink Key or another VitalKey.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure...
Through an agreement with the Richmond Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 10% of Pink Key revenues from qualifying subscribers will be donated to Komen to assist in its fight against breast cancer.
