The Story of the Pink Key
The credit for the Pinkness of this VitalKey belongs not to us but to Massey medical oncologist, Jim Khatcheressian, M.D.
For years, Dr. Khatcheressian has pursued novel ways to improve the delivery of care to breast cancer patients and survivors. He authored the definitive review of supportive care strategies for breast cancer patients in Oncology and is the lead author for the American Society of Clinical Oncology's practice guidelines for breast cancer follow-up - the definitive national practice guideline source for U.S. oncologists.
Working with his patients at the Massey Cancer Center in Virginia, he developed paper-based tools for helping breast cancer survivors adhere to best-practice guidelines for breast cancer survivorship... helping patients to ensure that they had the information and appropriate reminders that they needed to manage the treatment of their breast cancer and the diverse issues that arise in the years following their diagnoses.
His system worked well on paper, but he was convinced it would be even easier and more effective in electronic form, using what's called portable health record technology.
Dr. Khatcheressian's vision almost perfectly describes the Pink Key, so when we learned of his work, we built a partnership with him and negotiated an agreement with VCU to develop and market what has become known as the Pink Key.
If you've ever had to cart around your medical records - reports, X-rays, scans, CDs and the like - as you make the rounds of your doctors, you know there should be a better way. The Pink Key is that better way.
Why create a Pink Key?
Breast cancer is a disease that can recur years after an initial diagnosis. One of our objectives in providing the Pink Key is to provide survivors and their non-cancer specialist physicians ready access to the latest consensus on surveillance and survivorship. Dr. Khatcheressian is responsible for the maintenance of this evolving body of information.
The Pink Key offers a library of trusted information and other respected resources useful to both the patient and her physicians to ensure that everyone involved in her care is aware of the latest understanding of breast cancer treatment and survivorship issues.
If you decide to become a Pink Key holder, your Key will offer functionality not found on other VitalKeys. The Pink Key prompts survivors to manage appointments and their objectives in those encounters using an appointment management and reminder utility developed especially for the Pink Key by Dr. Khatcheressian.
Finally, Pink Key subscribers have their own, specially trained VitalKey medical liaison staff. We are intent on offering the personal support and assistance that all of our subscribers enjoy - but providing it though someone who understands the complex medical world that confronts breast cancer patients.
